Tower and Mine
Carry a scale up a tower and down a mine. Find where it reads a half or a ninth.
Physics · Class 11 · g above and below the ground · 10 simulations. For JEE, NEET and your boards.
What you'll learn
- Twice as far: The field is the pull on each kg: g = GM/r²
- Up the space tower: Weight up high: W = W₀(R/(R + h))²
- A ninth of the weight: Find the height from the reading
- Clock on the tower: A pendulum up high: T ∝ 1/√g
- Half weight in the mine: g inside: g = g₀(1 − d/R)
- Hill and mine: Up is twice as steep as down
- Draw g(r): g(r): a straight line inside, 1/r² outside
- Draw the well: The potential well: deepest at the centre
- A heavy core: Density changes: find the mass inside, then g
- Spin till it floats: Spin lightens the equator: N = m(g − ω²R)
